POLAR BEAR PLUNGE 2017 – start the year with a SPLASH for charity!

On the 1 January 2016, the Sub Aqua Club pool on Cottonmill Lane was the venue for the inaugural St Albans Polar Bear Plunge! This was a chance for brave people to plunge into the icy water of this outdoor, unheated pool, all to raise money for charity. The event attracted 151 plucky plungers ranging from 5 to 66 years in age and well over 150 spectators to cheer them on. It was all organised by SAB member Clare Suttie, away from the world of Atlas Translations and being the Polar Bear PA for her North Pole-trekking husband as an additional job!

If any fellow SABs can help out in any way – with sponsorship, raffle donations, cake baking, volunteering on the day – or just coming along on the day to plunge/not plunge, Clare would be incredibly grateful. 2016 saw many families plunge – would be great if there could be a group of Plungetastic SABBERs jumping in!

The event raised £5093.28 and we hope that in 2017 we will raise even more for Earth Works St Albans and Rennie Grove Hospice Care.

Food, hot drinks, postcards, musical entertainment, raffle, a bar, and glitter tattoos (waterproof of course)  guarantee a bustling event for a unique start to your New Year.   All plucky plungers receive a warming hot chocolate, a medal and a t-shirt. Fancy dress costumes are welcome, and prizes are awarded – 2016 saw a penguin, some Santas, a troupe of snowman, a giraffe, BananaMan, a ghostbuster and even Buzz Lightyear.

For a refreshing start to your 2017, grab tickets now – or gift some to a plucky pal – or just come along and show your support as a super spectator.  See Polar Bear Plunge St Albans 2017 on Facebook, or take a look at www.ed2northpole.org for more details.
