Wow! The St Albans Pancake Race really does live on!
So, with frying pan in hand, they recruited over 100 flippin amazing local people and businesses to take part in their “1 minute flip off”!
With Bob Golding, St Albans’ own Pantomime Dame (as well as many other attributes to his name), demonstrating how to “flip off” from his house boat (and what a lovely kitchen, lovely green tiles, it was too), and with everyone joining in in true “panto” style with the shout of “flip off”, “flip off” to get us all in the mood, it had a real “panto” vibe to it. Full of fun and everyone chomping at the bit to get started.
When the real “flip off” was called by Bob, over 100 participants really worked their pancakes – some were just batting them as if they were a ping pong ball on a paddle, and some had true chef style, and with the “It’s a Knockout” type theme tune to keep us all going, it had such an air of fun, community spirit and togetherness. Even though we couldn’t physically be together, it was fantastic to see people that you knew, their smiling faces and the comradery of it all.
And yes, we did eat our pancake after it had taken a “batter”ing – Get it? Get it? Oh let’s just leave the jokes to Bob Golding then!
A massive well done to Suzy, Simon and the team for putting it all together.
And fantastic coverage from the BBC:
And who knows, we could all be part of the Guinness Book of Records for the most online flippers ever!
It’s not too late to donate – and it really does make a difference to the struggling families that Home Start Herts are supporting – even more so in these isolating times. Please donate whatever you can HERE
Meanwhile, stay safe and we look forward to returning to St Peters Street for the Pancake Race in 2022.
