Polar Bear PLUNGE 2019 – Start your New Year with a SPLASH!

Posted on

On the 1 January 2016, the Sub Aqua Club pool on Cottonmill Lane in St Albans was the venue for the inaugural St Albans Polar Bear Plunge! The event has now been repeated each year, and is back again!

Now’s your chance to commit to 2019. Will you be joining the 400+ plucky past plungers ranging from 5 to 67 years in age, or will you be a supportive spectator helping to cheer them on?!

Last year amazing TBC members Ele Stevens, Sue Wybrow, Suzy Moody and Neil Barras-Smith jumped in – can we get a bigger team this year?

Food, hot drinks, musical entertainment, raffle, a bar, and more, all guarantee a bustling event for a unique start to your New Year.   All plucky plungers receive warming hot chocolate, a cosy warm hat and some treats!

This year’s ALL money raised from tickets and on the day sales goes direct to three fabulous local charities: the Ollie Foundation, Earthworks St Albans and the Counselling Foundation.

Verity Bramwell, Operations Manager from the Ollie Foundation says:
“We are so excited to be a charity partner of The Polar Bear Plunge 2019. This is a great fundraiser that all the family can take part in and start their new year by doing something amazing for great causes.”

Earthworks Leader, Bianca Badham commented: “We are excited to be involved with the Polar Bear Plunge again this year, it’s a fantastic way to start the year with a running jump! We are currently piloting our “Earthworks on Wheels” project, taking our team into the community to provide a gardening service for vulnerable older people. The funds raised by plungers will help us to develop this service and make a real difference in the community”

Fancy dress costumes are welcome, and prizes are awarded – past plungers have included a penguin, some Santas, a troupe of snowmen, a giraffe, Banana Man, a ghostbuster, C J Parker (Pamela Anderson’s character in Baywatch), and even Buzz Lightyear.

For a refreshing start to your 2019, buy your earlybear ticket now – or gift some to a plucky pal – or just come along and show your support as a super spectator.
